I read this stat on twitter: “Since World War II United States has spent nearly $1 trillion (in 1997 dollars) on foreign aid. The result is debt, dependency and poverty.” It got me to thinking about how America’s conscientiousness has cost the US taxpayer. I’m all for helping those less fortunate people, nations, etc, but when our good intentions are being taken advantage of, something needs to change.
Why should the US continue to give away so much when we are suffering ourselves due to the lack of so much? To continue down this path makes no sense to me.
The stat I quoted above has not been substantiated, the author did not offer any supporting documentation but I believe it just the same. One has only to read history to know that this figure is not outside the realm of believability.
Should the US continue being ‘big brother’ to the world when we Americans so ill afford it? Do we continue this out of some guilt to being so well-off?
